
A new health insurance system for curative healthcare for all residents of the Netherlands has come into force. Under the new Health Insurance Act (Zorgverzekeringswet) all residents and/or employees are obliged to take out have an health insurance. Every health care insurance company in the Netherlands that has stated it will provide services under the Act, has a legal obligation to accept anybody who applies for insurance.
For the basic insurance you will have to pay a premium to the insurer. This is known as the nominal premium. Depending on your income and family situation, you may be eligible for an allowance in respect of this premium: the health care allowance.
